Government of Canada invests in Dandelion Festival
KEMPTVILLE – The 12th annual Dandelion Festival will celebrate arts and culture with support from the Government of Canada. The funding was announced today by Gord Brown, Member of Parliament (Leeds-Grenville) on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

The citizens of North Grenville and beyond will once again enjoy the Dandelion Festival, a free celebration taking place from May 27 to 29, 2011, and including performances by local musicians, street performers, and dancers; exhibits by local artisans and crafters; and historical walks and performances. More than 115 artists will take part in the lively three-day festival, which will count on the support of about 175 volunteers.

“Participation in local artistic events is a great way to bring communities together and showcase local cultural talent,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government is pleased to be associated with activities like the Dandelion Festival that enrich citizens’ lives and strengthen the local economy.”

“Through its investment in culture, our Government is enabling citizens to enjoy their shared local arts and heritage,” said Mr. Brown. “Thanks to this support, the Dandelion Festival can present artistic activities that appeal to audiences of all ages and promote artists and artisans from the North Grenville region.”

“With the support of the Government of Canada, our festival will showcase North Grenville’s tremendous home-grown talent, both on the stage and in the streets,” said Brent Kelaher, Dandelion Festival Coordinator. “This annual event encourages residents young and old to get involved in their community, while stimulating tourism and providing important exposure opportunities for local artists, artisans, musicians, and businesses.”

The Dandelion Festival North Grenville is a local, incorporated organization whose mandate is to promote and celebrate local arts and culture, including the planning and production of the Dandelion Festival.

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $13,500 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
