Government of Canada helps youth in Eastern Ontario prepare for their careers
December 15, 2010

Brockville —Local youth will have the opportunity to learn about career options in the health care, trades and technology sectors, thanks to support from the Government of Canada. Mr. Gordon Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds—Grenville, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.

“In today’s environment, it is more important than ever that young Canadians have the skills and information they need to participate and succeed in the job market,” said Mr. Brown. “Our government is proud to support activities like this one that benefit both employers and youth.”

With assistance from the federal Youth Awareness program, St. Lawrence College, through the Trade Roots project, will coordinate six career fairs across eastern Ontario.

Trade Roots brings together local industry, businesses, educators and employment services organizations to provide information about career and apprenticeship opportunities and offer hands-on demonstrations of the skilled trades and other professions. The career fairs will take place in the communities of Tyendinaga, Kingston, Smiths Falls, Kemptville, Morrisburg and Casselman, and are expected to draw over 4,000 participants.

St. Lawrence College will receive over $232,000 in federal Youth Awareness funding to support its Trade Roots project.
