Brockville – Gord Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds-Grenville today announced he is organizing a Community Consultation on Palliative and Compassionate Care. It takes place at 7 pm at the Royal Brock Quality Inn in Brockville on Thursday, September 30.
“This is an opportunity for members of the public to tell me what is working with our system and how to fix what isn’t working,” he explains.
As a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Palliative and Compassionate Care, Brown plans to gather submissions from residents of Leeds-Grenville to be included in the final report from the committee.
That report will be compiled later this fall. Committee members from across Canada are holding similar hearings leading up to the final report. The committee heard witnesses in Ottawa in June.
“We know there are areas where our health care system requires change to suit the needs of an aging population and to deal with catastrophic and long-term illness,” says Brown. “I have prepared a Compassionate Care Bill that would provide more assistance to parents with a child who requires stay-at-home care while recovering from a serious illness.
“We want to hear from the public about where they feel our system can be improved.”
The consultation will begin with speakers from care agencies and then the floor will be opened to the public.
Anyone who wishes to participate must contact Brown’s Brockville office so they can receive complete details and be placed on the speaking list.
