The Government of Canada Supports the Brockville Concert Association

Brockville, May 8, 2009 – On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Gord Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds–Grenville, today announced funding for the Brockville Concert Association The Association will use this funding to support a number of concerts and activities, including the 2009 Jazz Festival, which is taking place in several local venues from May 8 to 16, 2009. The 2009 Classical Concert Series, which runs from September to December 2009, will also benefit from this support. Founded in 1948, the Brockville Concert Association presents jazz and classical concerts in Brockville and also organizes numerous outreach activities, workshops, and artist-in-residence programs. “Congratulations to the Brockville Concert Association on more than 60 years of high-calibre musical performances for the community,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government is proud to support organizations like this one that are continually expanding their repertoire, audiences, and programming.” “The Brockville Concert Association has a long history of bringing important and enjoyable performances to audiences in the Brockville area,” said Mr. Brown. “I am pleased that our Government can assist the Association with its valuable contributions to the life of our community.” “The assistance of the Government of Canada has enabled us to expand into new areas of programming: gospel, some opera, and outreach to the community—particularly, younger people,” said John McAllister, President of the Brockville Concert Association. “The Brockville Concert Association is heading in new directions utilizing different venues and a variety of partnerships. The support from the Government of Canada is helping us provide quality programming at affordable rates in an area that is feeling the impact of the economic downturn.” The Government of Canada has provided $10,000 through the Arts Presentation Canada program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the diversity and richness of Canada’s culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences. |
