Leeds-Grenville receives over $23 million in infrastructure money from federal government
February 13, 2009
Ottawa – Gord Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds-Grenville, announced this morning that Leeds-Grenville is receiving over $23 million in infrastructure funding from the federal government. “This money will be matched by the province and the municipalities to complete seven major infrastructure projects in the riding,” he says. “I am thrilled that all the work we have been doing has paid off so well for the riding,” he says. “I am also pleased that municipalities prepared and submitted their requests for funding and kept me informed about their progress.” He notes that there are several projects remaining in the riding that require funding. “I am continuing to work hard to ensure they receive funding in the next round of announcements,” he adds. The seven projects are among 289 across the province that will soon break ground thanks to a federal-provincial-municipal investment of more than $1 billion. The governments of Canada and Ontario have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in Ontario Communities for the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons. Because the federal and provincial governments understand that infrastructure investments will stimulate the economy, project applications were approved for funding as quickly as possible. Following is the list of Leeds-Grenville projects and the financing they will receive. North Grenville: Local Road Infrastructure - Pinehill Road Roundabout - $200,417 Brockville: Tourism Infrastructure - Maritime Discovery Centre of the 1000 Islands (MDC) - $5,694,492 Delta: Local Road Infrastructure - Golf Club Road Rehabilitation - $133,333 Lansdowne: - Waste Water Infrastructure - Lyndhurst Storm Water Management Facilities Project -$775,557 Merrickville - Waste Water Infrastructure - Sewage Treatment Improvements -$2,440,000 Spencerville - Short Sea Shipping Infrastructure - Port of Prescott Capital Development $11,575,412 Westport - Water Infrastructure - Waterworks Improvements - $66,667 Total - $23,466,969.
